Our DNA…

For almost five years, I fought two battles...the battle for survival fought daily by those who call the streets home...and the battle to overcome the negative perception a large portion of society has when it comes to the homeless.
At HSH our purpose is two-fold. We aim to minister to and serve the homeless and to engage the community at large in an attempt to bridge the gap that exists between them in such a way that it becomes mutually beneficial.
It is our firm belief that through our Homeless Outreach and Community Engagement programs, we can and will begin to effect change that will lead to dramatic, positive results for all concerned.

Homeless Outreach

“We’re in the loving business”  - Steven

When Steven founded Home Street Home, he did so with one distinct purpose, to go beyond merely attempting to meet the basic needs of our homeless brothers and sisters. To make every effort to build relationships that would last a life time, and hopefully help rebuild lives in the process!

He knew the key ingredient to our success in doing so would be love. That’s why we operate under the belief that handshakes and hugs are just as important as tents and sleeping bags; at the same time, realizing the importance of accepting each individual for who they are and where they are in their journey.

We are a “boots on the ground” operation.  Our offices are our vehicles, and we can be found in the field day and night.  ALWAYS GOING TO THEM. NEVER EXPECTING THEM TO COME TO US.

HSH provides tents, sleeping bags, food, clothing, water, hygiene products, footwear, camp stoves, heaters, propane, and other necessities our friends so desperately need.  We also help fill prescriptions, help with medical situations when needed and rehab when desired, provide transportation, buy bus tickets and passes, provide glasses, help with obtaining identification, assist with housing and utility costs once they leave the streets while they work to get on their feet, and more.

We also work to provide the things that don’t carry a price tag.  We possess a strong desire to minister to their non-physical needs by providing spiritual and emotional support as well.  Prayer is a constant in what we do, and within our team we have a recovering addict, ordained ministers, and others who bring unique skill sets and experiences to our outreach.  We also help in bridging the gap between our homeless friends and their families whenever possible, having reunited several.

Our goal is to never say “we don’t do that”, and with God's help and your support, we can achieve that goal!

Community Outreach

The homeless condition is one of the most misunderstood conditions society has to deal with and our homeless friends pay a steep price because it is.

As the only homeless outreach organization in Middle Tennessee founded and led by someone who was homeless, we can provide a “lived it” perspective that no one else can. We are dedicated to helping dispel the myths that exist concerning homelessness and educate society about the “real” reality that is associated with it. There is no “one size fits all” solution, and we would love to talk to you about it.

If your organization, company, civic group, church, school, etc. would like to learn more, please contact us.  We can tailor a presentation around your particular situation.

Together we can make a difference!
