Steven Allen Young is the Founder and Executive Director of Home Street Home Ministries, a pastor, poet, former radio air personality and author. He’s a survivor of both CSA (Child Sexual Abuse) and CDV (Childhood Domestic Violence), as well as a recovering addict.
He’s been a successful businessman, having held several Board of Directors positions, but was also a thief and con, having spent over eight years in prison. His chosen lifestyle also led to four failed marriages and 5 years homeless on the streets of Nashville.
Today, after nearly four decades apart, he is remarried to his first wife, Andrea (Andy). Between them, they have three adult sons, as well as two grandchildren. When they’re not ministering on the streets of Nashville, they love to kick back, watch sports and movies together, travel, spend time with their grandkids, play with Hondo, their Goldendoodle and enjoy what God has done. Repaired, replaced, and reunited.
His journey from God-Hater to God-follower is one he is dedicated to sharing with others. And he would love to share it with you!
A Message From Steven…
Not all chains are man-made, out of metal. Those, with enough brute force, can be broken. However, the chains that can’t be seen are the ones that do the most damage. And are the most difficult to break.
They weigh you down, hold you back and keep you in a darkness that consumes and overwhelms you a little more each day. Until you believe you will never see the light again. I know. I’ve been there. But not anymore. And I would love to share that journey with you.
My purpose for writing this book wasn’t about making money or becoming famous. In fact, are proceeds go to benefit our homeless friends. Not into my pockets. My hope is it will provide a little sliver of light, a little glimmer of hope, for anyone who needs it.
Writing this book wasn’t easy. I knew it would take it’s toll on me and it did. But I also knew, if sharing my story leads just one person out of their darkness and into the light and helps them break their “chains”, then it was worth it.
You do matter. You do deserve a beautiful and blessed life.
And always remember; You are never too far gone for God.
Be blessed and…as always…much love!
Steven
At twelve years old, his hatred of God took root.
FROM CHAINS to CHANGE…One Man’s Journey From God-Hater to God-Follower
The life story of Steven Allen Young, Founder/Executive Director, of Home Street Home Ministries with New York Times-bestselling Author ERIC WILSON (Fireproof and Facing The Giants)
Weighed down by chains of guilt and shame, Steven grew to live for the moment. He partied, slept around, manipulated people for his own purpose and desires, and became a con, a thief, and an addict. His choices led to four failed marriages, over eight years in prison and eventually leaving him broke, alone, and living five years homeless on the streets of Nashville, Tennessee. In 2013 he decided to end it all. It was at that point, the very God he despised stepped in and his long healing journey From Chains to Change began. This painfully honest and powerfully redemptive story is an example of God's ability to heal, transform, and restore. And offer hope for the future.

“If you want to read a story of God’s present-day miracles, this is the book for you. It tells the captivating story of a man named . . . Jesus. It’s a story of hearts once given over to darkness that changed into hearts full of light. Steven’s life story and ministry is a mind-blowing journey proving the power of Jesus. His obedience to what God has called him to do is remarkable. It gives hope to the hopeless and conviction for Christians around the world to to help the overlooked, hungry, and homeless.” -April Tomlin, CEO, April Tomlin Interiors
“From Chains to Change is incredibly raw, heartbreaking, and vulnerable. So many times, reading Steven’s words first paralyzed me, then overwhelmed me to tears. Yet what was most moving to me was to see the heart of Jesus calling Steven back to Him from such a dark and broken world time and time again. He never gave up on Steven. A most beautiful and real picture of redemption. Steven’s story really shows readers how each human heart is so alike. We don’t need to be reminded of where we’ve fallen short, but instead, be assured of how truly loved and adored we are by our Creator no matter our mistakes or circumstances. And then just let Jesus take it from there.” -Lauren Akins, NY Times bestselling author of Live in Love, Love One International, wife of country music star Thomas Rhett
“If you’ve ever doubted the integrity of humanity, questioned if there is any good in the world, or needed proof of the redemption and tenderness of our faithful God, Steven’s story will replace your faith deficits with abounding hope. Through a random series of events, I was introduced to Steven and have been blessed by his friendship and ministry. Everyone needs a Steven in their lives and every city needs a Home Street Home. The homeless matter, and I know that because of how much Steven matters to me, and the countless lives he has already impacted.” -Catherine Nail, Event Specialist & Coordinator, wife of country music star David Nail

A heart wrenching, yet wonderful, touching, story of what true grace, mercy, and forgiveness should look like. My journey began on May 20, 1956 as a stout, blond-haired, blue-eyed baby in Vallejo, California, twenty-five miles east of San Francisco, the fourth of what would become five sons. In the early 60’s, after my father retired from active service in the Navy, we moved to Nashville, TN, short drive down the highway from his childhood home of Watertown. That’s when my journey “From Chains to Change” began.
I still reside in Nashville today and after nearly four decades apart, I am happily remarried to my first wife, Andrea (Andy). Between us we have three adult sons and two adorable Grandchildren, Beau and Gabby. I also have two brothers still with me, Robert & John. My two oldest, Billy & Byron along with my parents have passed.
When not on the streets ministering to our homeless friends Andy & I enjoy kicking back, watching movies and sports together, traveling, spoiling our grandbabies and our dog Hondo. I love country music, reading good books, tending to my flowers and am an avid Mickey Mouse collector. Finally, I spend every single day appreciating what God has done, repaired, replaced, and reunited, by “trying daily to make a difference in my small corner of the world”. I am definitely saved by Grace I didn't deserve! ~Steven
